The resist-dye processes of Asia and the Americas offer many possibilities for contemporary interpretations. These quilts use clamp methods to remove coloration rather that add color. After the fabric is prepared it is cut into strips, which are reassembled and quilted.
The large panel also uses clamps and ties but the color is applied directly (tie-dye) to the silk.
